Eli Apple’s mother threatens to sue media outlets over ‘awful lies’

Annie Apple, the mother of embattled New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple, has threatened to sue two media outlets over unflattering reports about her she claims contain “awful lies.”

Two media outlets in particular were singled out in a tweet posted by Annie Apple earlier this week, and Black Online Sports, both of which depicted considerable strife in the Apple family.

Both reports portrayed Apple’s mother as something of a catalyst to many of the Giants corner’s issues, many of which manifested in a season in which portraying it as tumultuous would be an understatement.

Apple was ultimately suspended for the Giants’ season finale for conduct detrimental to the team, which allegedly included confrontations with the coaching staff as well as a public feud with teammate Landon Collins. One unidentified Giants player accused Apple of being the “worst teammate I’ve ever had.”

Apple’s conduct amid the controversies did not help, either, which included inappropriate exchanges with the media. And the Giants had no choice but to face the issue head-on. Throughout the final stages ahead of Apple’s suspension, his mother was portrayed as a disruptive influence in his life.

“Everybody’s saying he has family issues or there’s family members that he has to cut off. Nobody can just come right out and be like, ‘Yo, it’s his (expletive) mom.’ It’s a damn shame,” Dane Blackson, Apple’s brother, told TMZ. “Eli’s agents, his financial team, they don’t like Annie. Nobody likes Annie.

“I feel like when people say Eli’s like a cancer … I just think of mom when people say those words and use those types of adjectives.”

Annie Apple also underwent brain surgery during this past season, adding additional stress to her son’s life.

All that aside, Apple’s future with the Giants organization seems to be uncertain at best. That said, new Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said he plans to meet with Apple, saying, “Culture is critical.”

How Annie Apple plays into her son’s NFL future going forward remains to be seen.
