Kristaps Porzingis riffs on classic Kobe quote to explain horrid shooting night

Kristaps Porzingis suffered through a horrid shooting night in Thursday’s showdown with the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden. At least the budding superstar had a sense of humor about it.

Porzingis, following a two-game absence due to lingering soreness in his left knee, posted an 0-for-11 (0-3 from beyond the arc) night from the floor. Porzingis rode the bench for the entire fourth quarter after being sat midway through the third quarter. In total, Porzingis played a total 23 minutes and scoring only one point.

“After I made that last turnover and subbed out, I needed to walk out and calm myself down a little bit,” Porzingis said, via the New York Post. “The emotions are up and down during the game. It was just a bad moment for me, especially because how bad I want to do good for my team.

“The second unit was playing great basketball. Of course I wanted to be in there and felt like I could have helped and I always feel that way, but the second unit was playing great. And that’s who we kept on the floor and they finished the job.”

But Porzingis’ money quote came when he riffed on a classic quote from the one and only Kobe Bryant.

“Kobe says you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take, well today I missed all 100,” Porzingis quipped, clearly making light of the situation.

Perhaps Porzingis was able to take such a whimsical approach to his awful night due to the Knicks’ 102-93 victory over the talented Celtics. Although Porzingis conceivably could have been miffed over Michael Beasley receiving “MVP” chants in the Garden due to his standout 32-point game and 4th quarter heroics.

Now that’s something.
