Jordin Tootoo marks seven years of sobriety with heartfelt social media post

Chicago Blackhawks winger Jordin Tootoo has yet to lace up the skates this season due to injury, but Tuesday held far greater personal meaning than any hockey game: The day marked seven years of sobriety for the NHL player.

Tootoo has been extremely candid over the years regarding his battles with substance abuse. He released a book in 2014 titled, “All the Way: My Life on Ice” than chronicled how he overcame his alcohol addiction.

And with Tuesday making it seven years of sobriety, Tootoo in an emotional Instagram post reflected on how far he’s come and those who have inspired him along the way; especially his wife, Jen, whom he praised along with daughter Siena, who has a baby sister on the way.

“7 years, 2556 days, one day at a time. My life is so completely different and I love every minute of it. To my beautiful wife.. you have brought beauty into my life that has allowed me to shine like the stars and given me the most precious gift a husband/father can ask for in our daughter Siena. She will soon have a baby sister to love and play with ! I will forever love and respect you as my wife and baby mama. To my family and friends, thank you for believing in me as I will continue to prove myself on a daily basis. #7yrsandcounting #soberlife”

Pretty powerful stuff to say the least. Congratulations of course goes out to Tootoo, who undoubtedly can serve as an inspiration to those facing similar obstacles in their lives.
