Carmelo Anthony ‘excited and ecstatic’ for return to Madison Square Garden
Carmelo Anthony couldn’t hide his eagerness over returning to Madison Square Garden this weekend, saying he’s “excited and ecstatic” in anticipation.
Anthony will face the Knicks in their iconic arena for the first time on Saturday night since an offseason trade shipped him to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to go back and play in the Garden,” Anthony told Thunder reporters earlier this week, via the New York Post. “Play in front of those fans. Play in front of my family, my friends. But at the end of the day, it’s business to me.
“But I’d be lying if I said I’m not ecstatic to be going back and playing there. Like I said, I got a different feeling with New York. A different relationship, different bond with the city, with the fans, with the people. It’s a little bit special for me.”
Anthony was extremely candid about his feelings toward the Knicks after the trade. And some of the bitterness he harbors is understandable. That said, Anthony doesn’t know what to expect from Knicks fans when he steps on the Madison Square Garden court wearing another team’s jersey.
“I don’t know until I actually get there on the court, feel the reaction,” Anthony said. “Be in that atmosphere, be in that environment. If I sit here and say, it’s going to feel the same kind of way, right now, I’d be lying to you. I really don’t know, what it’s going to feel like, what it’s going to be like. I’m just looking forward to that.”
Let’s hope for Anthony’s sake Knicks fans listen to Kristaps Porzingis and show their onetime star player some love on Saturday night.
