LaVar Ball announces sons LiAngelo, LaMelo have signed with agent
LaVar Ball on Thursday announced that sons LiAngelo And LaMelo have signed with agent Harrison Gaines — who also represents his third son, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo — with the goal for two to play professionally overseas.
“I don’t care about the money,” LaVar told ESPN Thursday morning. “I want them to go somewhere where they will play them together on the court at the same time. The priority is for the boys to play on the same team.”
The elder Ball earlier this week announced LiAngelo had withdrawn from UCLA in the wake of a dispute over his indefinite suspension following a shoplifting scandal involving the freshman and two teammates. Ball previously withdrew his youngest son, LaMelo, out of Chino Hills High (Calif.) with the plan for him to be home-schooled.
Interestingly, Ball’s announcement Thursday contradicted what he said earlier in the week about the plan still being that LaMelo would play college basketball at UCLA. That certainly does not appear to be the case now.
“He’s not going to play college basketball,” LaVar said of LaMelo.
Reports surfaced earlier this week that some professional teams in Europe and Asia have expressed interest in the two youngest Ball siblings.
“I don’t know the deals and who is offering what,” LaVar said of the reported interest. “I’m letting Harrison handle all that, but I know there are a few teams interested. I just need to get them playing again.”
How things play out from here for LiAngelo and LaMelo remains to be seen, especially with the enigmatic, outspoken and unpredictable LaVar still presumably pulling all the strings. Like everything involving the Ball family, stay tuned. And that’s just how LaVar wants it.
