Steelers sent private plane to bring Ryan Shazier’s parents to Cincinnati

The Pittsburgh Steelers sent a private plane to pick up Ryan Shazier’s parents so they could be with their son after he suffered a frightening and serious back injury during Monday night’s victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shazier currently is hospitalized at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala broke the news Tuesday morning on Twitter that his parents are at their son’s side in the immediate wake of the traumatic injury.

Frazier’s father, Vernon, tweeted out a plea for thoughts and prayers late Monday evening.

Shazier suffered the injury when leading with the crown of his helmet while attempting to make a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone during the first quarter.

Shazier ultimately was carted off the field and taken to the hospital.

Steelers executive Kevin Colbert provided an initial update on Shazier’s condition Monday evening.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport followed up with a report Tuesday that indicated Shazier is showing “promising signs” the morning after the injury.

The Steelers certainly deserve praise for doing their part to make sure Shazier’s mother and father could be present to support their son during this extremely difficult and uncertain time.
