Baby double used for Serena Williams’ daughter in Gatorade commercial (vid)
A Gatorade commercial starring Serena Williams is drawing rave reviews for the message of empowerment the tennis icon relays in the spot to her newborn daughter, Alexis Olympia, not to mention all girls, to keep playing sports.
But Gatorade has now confirmed that the infant Williams is cradling in the commercial is not her two-month-old daughter. A baby double instead was used as Alexis Olympia was under the weather the day of the shoot.
There are so many reasons to quit, but even more to keep playing. Even if you don’t go pro, sports can teach you so much. So keep playing. #sistersinsweat #gatoradepartner @gatorade pic.twitter.com/ejVzVjDvpR

The baby in the commercial was originally believed to be Williams’ newborn daughter. However, after the baby’s true identity became a matter of dispute, Gatorade issued a statement confirming the infant was not in fact Williams’ actual daughter.
“While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set, but the sentiment remains the same,” a Gatorade spokeswoman said, via CBS Sports.
The fact the baby is not Williams’ actual daughter arguably is a case of much ado about nothing. Regardless of the true identity of the infant in the commercial, Williams’ inspirational and powerful message nevertheless still rings true.
