NBA on TNT crew mocks Ball family over LiAngelo’s shoplifting arrest (vids)

The NBA on TNT crew on Thursday night had a field day with the arrest of LiAngelo Ball’s shoplifting arrest in China earlier this week, using it as fodder to mock the entire Ball family, not to mention ridicule Lonzo Ball’s shooting struggles.

Ball, a UCLA Bruins freshman basketball player, along with two teammates, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, were arrested and interviewed by authorities in China earlier this week after being accused of shoplifting sunglasses at a Louis Vitton store near the team’s hotel (more on the situation here). UCLA is scheduled to face Georgia Tech Friday in Shanghai.

It was reported Thursday that the expectation is Ball, Riley and Hill are likely to face 20 days of house arrest as punishment for the alleged shoplifting incident.

While the entire situation is no laughing matter, it didn’t stop Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and the rest of the gang from gleefully enjoying making light of it all.

While reviewing highlights of Thursday’s Los Angeles Lakers-Washington Wizards game at Verizon Center, O’Neal and Barkley could not help but pepper commentary with sunglasses and shopping references.

“Do you think he went shopping in DC?” Shaq asked of Lonzo’s pregame activities.

“Better go to the Sunglass Hut,” Barkley replied. “I guarantee they don’t have security at the Sunglass Hut.”

O’Neal later began singing “Sunglasses at Night.” Kenny Smith also got in on the action, saying of the Lakers, ““Their future is so bright, they’ve got to wear shades.”

And it got worse — or funnier, depending on one’s point of view — from there. The crew spent three games’ worth of highlights breaking out sunglasses puns and other assorted skullduggery with the entire Ball family bearing the brunt of the ridicule.
