Rockets troll LeBron James over ‘Arthur’ meme before game vs. Cavs (vid)

The Houston Rockets delivered a timely troll-job at the expense of LeBron James in a pregame hype video ahead of Thursday’s showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James of course once again made waves earlier this week by referencing a meme based upon the “Arthur” cartoon, which the character’s clenched fist, often used on social media to express frustration.

When asked about the inspiration behind the post, however, James was evasive, simply stating, “I like Arthur.”

Despite James’ non-clarifying clarification, his most recent foray into cryptic social media musings ignited both armchair psychoanalysis as well as building a meme-upon-a-meme. And with the Rockets (8-3) hosting James’ Cavaliers (5-6) Thursday night at Toyota Center, the team got in on the action.

In a hype video posted on the team’s official Instagram, the Rockets took liberties with “Arthur,” interspersing clips of the cartoon alongside in-game footage as well as depicting James Harden cooking up a pot of gumbo. Oh, and there’s also an image of James armed with the aforementioned, animated clenched fist.  Have a look.

Cavs. Rockets. TONIGHT.

Bravo, Rockets. Bravo.

While all credit is due the Rockets for a brilliant bit of trolling, given what James had to say this week about social media, odds are he’s not going to see it anyway.
