Raiders vehemently deny claim O-line allowed Derek Carr injury

Alarming and unsubstantiated allegations made by the wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Brent Grimes are being vehemently denied by the Oakland Raiders.

Miko Grimes, no stranger to stirring up controversy with outlandish claims and profane remarks, said during an appearance Tuesday on “The Breakfast Club” that Raiders offensive lineman intentionally allowed Derek Carr to get injured during a Sept. 24 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Grimes claims the purported conspiracy stems from a disagreement over how the team would handle the national anthem amid the protest controversy.

“[Carr] was against [the offensive line] protesting,” Grimes said, via the New York Post. “And they had a fight in the locker room before that Monday night game with the Redskins. They were fighting in the locker room, and that’s the only all-black offensive line in the NFL is the Raiders.

“Derek Carr is a Bible-thumper to the fullest. And so he was basically trying to force the players to read the Bible before the game, and do all this stuff. They were like, ‘No, that’s you.’ And so he was so upset about it, when the whole offensive line said they were going to kneel, he was like, ‘No, you’re not kneeling. This is America, you’re going to stand for the flag.’ And they got in a fight in the locker room, so when they came out to play, they basically had a plan.”

A few Raiders players took to Twitter to blast Grimes’ claims.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini has since followed up on the allegations with the Raiders. She chronicled her findings in a series of tweets.

The notion that NFL players would organize a cabal to retaliate against a teammate over politics and the like is patently absurd. Although given her history, it is not not surprising Grimes would attempt to stir up trouble in this manner.
