Von Miller on 3-5 Broncos: ‘We’re not a good football team’
Von Miller provided a brutally honest take on the reeling 3-5 Denver Broncos following Sunday’s 51-23 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We are where we are right now,” Miller said, via ESPN. “Right now, [Sunday] … we’re not a good football team.
“We still have time. We still have time to be great. We’re not a great football team right now, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a great football team within us. But [Sunday], we’re not a good football team, offensively, defensively, special teams, whatever. We’re just not good right now.”
The Broncos started the season a respectable 3-1 but have now dropped four straight games. Along with Sunday’s demoralizing loss to the Eagles, the Broncos also were humiliated at home in a 23-10 loss to the woeful New York Giants in Week 5.
The Broncos in previous seasons could typically rely upon a stout-if-not-dominant defense to ride out any struggles on offense. And while that has been the case for the most part — the Broncos rank second in the NFL in total defense — things completely unraveled against the Eagles’ formidable offense.
“It’s the truth, it’s the truth, sometimes telling the truth is hard,” Miller said. “It’s the truth, 51 points … and on defense, we pissed the bed [Sunday]. It’s tough, it’s tough.”
All is not lost, however, for the Broncos at the season’s midpoint. But it could quickly go that way without a quick turnaround as the Broncos find themselves in the cellar of the AFC West.
“[We] gotta go win, gotta go win, it’s the pros,” Miller said. “There are no moral victories or young teams, none of that stuff, some of the excuses you get in college for losing. We’ve got starters across the board … we just got beat.”
The Broncos will attempt to right the ship next Sunday, but it won’t be easy with the 6-2 New England Patriots coming to town for a Sunday night showdown.
