2014 SI issue predicting Astros’ World Series win selling for big money
The incredible story of how Sports Illustrated predicted all the way back in 2014 that the Houston Astros would win the 2017 World Series continues to amaze.

Even more amazing, though, is how collectors are shelling out vast sums of money to get their hands on the suddenly valuable issue.
Sports Illustrated is selling reprints of the cover only for $19.95. To have it framed will cost collectors $79.95. Unfortunately, both of those offerings are currently sold out. But for those collectors who covet procuring a copy of the actual issue can scour the secondary auction market. And they better be prepared to pay up big time.
The winning bid for one issue — with an original publication date of June 30, 2014 and featuring World Series MVP George Springer on the cover — was a whopping $540 on eBay. ESPN reports that two issues have sold for as much as $1,025 each, with an average price of $280.
The going rate for other available issues on eBay appear to have a minimum set at approximately $100 with bidders willing to offer substantially more.
Interestingly, the now-celebrated, prophetic cover almost didn’t happen.
True story: If US doesn't give up last-second World Cup goal to Portugal, this 2014 cover is soccer. (Glad for SI it was Astros.) pic.twitter.com/zhQYHG1wKK
