Jimmy Butler stars in music video for new Luke Bryan song (vid)
Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler is a big-time country music fan and had his loyalty to the genre rewarded by snagging a starring role in the new music video from Luke Bryan for the song, “Light It Up.”
In the video, Butler “plays the main character in the three-minute ‘Light It Up’ clip, acting out the song’s lyrics,” per the website Taste of Country.
Via the Star Tribune:
The short version: Butler plays a basketball player distraught that he hasn’t received a text message from his girlfriend. There’s an argument, concern about the relationship, a broken cell phone … and a 32-point game by Butler with 10 assists and five steals in front of the home crowd.
Yes, there’s even more, with the video alternating between Butler worrying about his relationship while doing basketball player things and shots of Bryan singing.
Yep, it sounds like pretty much every other country music video … or something.
Butler teased the release of the “Light It Up” video via Instagram earlier this week.
Butler, during his time with the Chicago Bulls, was well-known as a country music aficionado, often to the chagrin of his teammates. In fact, Butler had his own celebrity crush on none other than Taylor Swift back when she was in the country game before transforming herself into the pop superstar we know today.
And now with a starring role in a Luke Bryan music video? Talk about establishing some serious country music fan bona fides. Although as far as acting gigs are concerned, it’s no cameo on “Law & Order: SVU” — like another NBA superstar — but it’s something.
