Tom Brady busts out Popeye reference: ‘I am what I am’
Tom Brady on Wednesday busted out the catchphrase of cartoon icon Popeye out of nowhere when addressing inquiries about his injured left shoulder. Better yet, he even pointed out to the assembled media he was well aware of the source of the line.
The New England Patriots quarterback missed Tuesday’s practice and was limited during Wednesday’s session due to what has been reported to be an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing, left shoulder.
Brady has absorbed a whopping 32 hits already this season and was jokingly asked if it has anything to do with some newfound mobility realized after turning 40 in August.
Brady took the question in stride to set up the reference to the aforementioned Sailor Man.
“That’s not it, nope. I wish I could do that,” Brady said, via ESPN. “Yeah, I am what I am.
“Who said that? That’s a very famous quote. Popeye said that.”
Well done, Mr. Brady.
All kidding and cartoon references aside, Brady did tell reporters the plan is for him to play Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium despite coming in a bit beat up.
“I’ll be there Sunday, don’t worry about that,” Brady said Wednesday, via ESPN. “I’ll be there.”
It could be even said that there’s a good chance that Brady on Sunday very well could be strong to the finish cause he eats his spinach.
Wait, can Brady even eat spinach under the insane guidelines of his restrictive dietary program? One would have to think so, right?
