Kirk Cousins shares great photo of himself holding newborn son
Kirk Cousins and wife Julie welcomed their first child the world over the weekend and on Tuesday, the Washington Redskins quarterback shared an adorable photograph of himself holding the family’s new bundle of joy. Family dog Bentley, a six-year-old Goldendoodle, also makes an appearance in the pic.
Cousins took to Instagram to post the pic, captioning it with the hashtag #paternityleave.
The Redskins are on their bye in NFL Week 5, as noted by Cousins in the Instagram post, which means the Redskins signal-caller will get to enjoy a lot of quality family time.
Julie, with an original due date of Sept. 18, had to gut it out until Friday, when she delivered a 9-pound, 6-ounce baby boy the couple named Cooper. Cousins was able to attend the birth after the Redskins gave him an excused absence from Friday’s practice ahead of last Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“We didn’t fine him for missing time,” Redskins head coach Jay Gruden joked at the time, via ESPN. “No issue. Kirk is going to be well-schooled on what happened [Friday]. We reintroduced everything to him so he’ll be up to speed.”
Cousins expressed sincere appreciation over being able to attend Cooper’s birth.
“I’m sure many of you who are dads and moms know that it’s a special experience,” Cousins said of being present at the delivery, via ESPN. “I texted the coaches afterwards and said, ‘That was a top experience of my life so far.’ So I guess that says it all.”
Cousins and the Redskins (2-2) did go on to drop their Monday night showdown in K.C., losing 29-20 to the still undefeated Chiefs. But sometimes, it’s all a matter perspective. And with that in mind, it’s great how Cousins now has a few days to reflect upon — not to mention enjoy — his growing family.
The Redskins will return to action on Oct. 15, when the team hosts the San Francisco 49ers at FedEx Field.
