Jameis Winston distributes food, gift cards to families affected by Hurricane Irma
Jameis Winston spent time this week doing his part to help families in the Tampa Bay area affected by Hurricane Irma by distributing much-needed food and gift cards.
The charitable outreach on the part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was done in conjunction with Feeding Tampa Bay and the non-profit Corporation to Develop Communities, per the team’s official website.
“Tampa is home and I want to let my community know that we can overcome anything”, said Winston. “The gift of giving is the greatest gift and I want to take advantage of the opportunity that I have to serve others.”
Winston handed out 35 pounds of food to over 400 families dealing with lost food due to power outages. He also personally donated $25 gift cards to each family as well.

“Jameis really wanted to be there for the community and he offered to donate $25 for each family to make sure they received a gift card to Publix.” said Ernest Comey, CEO of Corporation to Develop Communities. “Having him here and his dynamic presence is such a great calming force.”
Winston quickly deflected praise for his individual efforts, instead crediting the entire Bucs organization for the collective work being done to help in Hurricane Irma relief.
“It’s just not me.” Winston said. “Our team is making a legitimate effort and we are still not done.”
