Lions fan loses season tickets after racist Snapchat post

The Detroit Lions have announced a season-ticket holder has been banned from Ford Field as punishment for a racist social media post, as originally reported by The Detroit News.

The fan in question posted an image on Snapchat of two African-American Lions fans sitting during the national anthem before Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals, writing “Ignorant N—–s” underneath the post.

The Lions, after conducting an investigation that involved speaking with the fan behind the Snapchat video, decided to compel the fan to surrender his season tickets. Further, the fan isn’t welcome at Ford Field for any future events.

The Lions, who initially declined comment Wednesday when the racist social media post went viral, later decided to ban the individual, citing a violation of the organization’s guest conduct policy.

“Providing our fans with a safe and enjoyable experience at all Ford Field events is of the utmost importance and an absolute priority for our organization. A core component of our guest conduct policy is the expectation that all fans are respectful and considerate to each other regardless of their personal beliefs or differences,” the Lions said in a statement, via ESPN. “With respect to the issue in question, the Detroit Lions and Ford Field do not comment on specifics related to any alleged guest incident(s) or altercations at games or other stadium events.”

Lions president Rod Wood told The Detroit News the organization plans to contact the fans singled out in the original Snapchat post in the near future.
