Kevin Durant has fun with cupcake label by baking cupcakes (vid)
Kevin Durant has spent the better part of the past year railing against being labeled as a “cupcake.” The Golden State Warriors superstar recently upped the ante by introducing his Nike KDX sneaker’s red velvet cupcake edition.

To have even more fun with the silly cupcake label, Durant humorously took it another step further … by actually baking cupcakes.
“My favorite memory of red velvet was being called a cupcake every time I touched the ball in Oklahoma City, Durant says in the BuzzFeed Tasty Instagram video. That was fun. That’s why it was so funny to us after we won the basketball game. It was kind of a little jab to the fans in Oklahoma City, but it’s all fun and games.”
It would seem Durant has developed quite the sense of humor about the all the cupcake nonsense, originally inspired by former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Kendrick Perkins’ characterization of soft players. Once Durant bolted OKC to join the Warriors last offseason, Thunder fans, among others, adopted the term to blast the team’s onetime superstar (more on that here).
Durant, as noted, has long mocked and ridiculed the cupcake label. It would seem between the red velvet cupcake edition of his Nike sneakers and actually baking cupcakes, Durant’s latest, whimsical dismissal of the bit is the icing on the … cupcake … in a manner of speaking.
