Patriots owner Robert Kraft gave Donald Trump Super Bowl LI ring
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft gifted a Super Bowl LI ring to President Donald Trump, according to a CSNNE report.
The news arose Monday when former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci claimed in a direct message, relayed on Twitter, that Kraft indeed awarded Trump a ring from “last years [sic] game.”
Scaramucci’s claim later was corroborated by Patriots vice president of media relations Stacey James, who told CSNNE’s Tom Curran that Kraft awarded the President the ring due in part to the fact that the Patriots were the first team to visit the Trump White House, an appearance that became the source of some controversy.
Typically, the Patriots only present a president with a personalized jersey and a helmet when visiting the White House to celebrate a Super Bowl victory, as noted by the Boston Herald.
The Herald report goes on to note that James later indicated that Trump “went ‘above and beyond’ what the Patriots had previously experienced, giving tours to the players to parts of the 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. White House the other four Super Bowl winners did not get a chance to take in.”
Trump’s ties to the Patriots organization — including links to Kraft, head coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady — have been well-documented over the years, so it’s hardly surprising Kraft chose to give the President a ring.
Trump reportedly plans to put the ring on display in the presidential library.
