Charles Barkley blasts Kyrie Irving’s trade demand as ‘so stupid’

Charles Barkley cannot believe that Kyrie Irving demanded a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers, referring to the move and the ensuing drama in its aftermath as “so stupid.”

Barkley, making an appearance on NBA Network’s “Game Time” program on Tuesday, put Irving on blast for his trade demands.

“I don’t understand the Kyrie situation, like, you know this generation of players, you want to be on a good team, you want to play with other great players,” Barkley said, as transcribed by Dime Mag. “There’s a notion where you wanna be the man, I just think it’s so stupid. If I got a chance to play with another great player, I wanna do that. I mean, the objective is to win. When he was on a bad team and he was the man I guarantee that wasn’t a lot of fun for him.”

Barkley has never shied away from taking controversial stances, obviously, especially when it comes to articulating his thoughts on “this generation” of current NBA players, whom he once derided as “AAU babies.”

“I just don’t understand why these guys,” Barkley added. “If you get a chance to play with great players, that’s half the battle.”

Interestingly, Barkley previously ripped Kevin Durant for joining the Golden State Warriors. So there’s that component to Barkley’s views on such topics as well.

That said, Barkley isn’t the only prominent NBA mind to disparage Irving over his arguably surprising desire to step out of LeBron’s all-encompassing shadow.

It’s just that Barkley can be so colorful when expressing such views. That’s why he remains among the most compelling media member in professional sports coverage.
