Browns’ Brock Osweiler hype video widely mocked on Twitter

The Cleveland Browns announced earlier this week that Brock Osweiler would start the team’s first preseason game Thursday against the New Orleans Saints. While being atop the depth chart at this stage means little to nothing in the long haul, the Browns nevertheless took to Twitter, arguably in ill-advised manner, to hype Osweiler.

The tweet opens with the phrase “For those about to Brock,” a riff on the title of a classic track from AC/DC. Footage is also shown of Osweiler making throws in practice — in slow motion — to a hard-rocking soundtrack.

There you have it. It seems that if watching Osweiler making warmup tosses and completing short-yardage throws — in slow-mo, mind you — gets one pumped up … well, the Browns have your number.

The Browns not surprisingly are getting mocked and ridiculed for their arguably poorly conceived attempt to get the Dawg Pound on the Osweiler bandwagon. Here’s a brief sampling, as compiled by CBS Sports.

Oof. And those were some of the milder ones that can be found on Twitter.

As noted, starting a team’s first exhibition game guarantees nothing, as is the case with Osweiler getting the nod. That said, Browns head coach Hue Jackson has remained steadfast in his assertion that Osweiler has as good a chance as any of the Browns signal-callers to be under center come Week 1.

“For those about to Brock,” indeed.

And for what it’s worth, the Browns aren’t even the first team to go down this social media road fraught with risks in recent weeks, either. Sheesh.
