Ice Cube already recruiting Paul Pierce to join BIG3

Paul Pierce is only days into his NBA retirement, officially speaking, and there’s already a standing offer for him to play basketball.

BIG3 founder Ice Cube took to Twitter Wednesday night to issue his initial recruiting pitch to Pierce.

As noted by Ice Cube, Pierce signed a symbolic, one-day contract earlier this week so he could officially retire as a member of the Boston Celtics.

Pierce obviously would be welcome addition to the fledgling 3-on-3 league. So, it goes without saying that Ice Cube’s interest in bringing Pierce into the BIG3 fold makes complete sense, much to the presumed chagrin of another former superstar athlete who wants in on the league.

Pierce, who made a foray in broadcasting with ESPN during the 2017 NBA Playoffs, so impressed ESPN brass that the network is expected to bring him back full-time for the 2017-18 season, primarily serving as an analyst on “NBA Countdown.”

While that may indeed be the case, Pierce also previously expressed possible interest in joining the BIG3, potentially as early as next season. He mentioned during an interview in June that he had some ideas on who he’d recruit as teammates.

“You never know. I might try to convince KG, Kobe and we might try to set up our own team,” Pierce said.

Suffice to say, a three-headed monster of Kevin Garnett, Pierce and Kobe Bryant would be a match made in 3-on-3 basketball heaven.

As it stands, there has been no indication Pierce is seriously considering a foray into the BIG3 world. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen, either.
