CSN Chicago credits wetbutt23 for breaking Jose Quintana trade story
The Chicago White Sox on Thursday traded pitcher Jose Quintana to the crosstown Chicago Cubs in a deal that became the talk of Major League Baseball, not only for the significance of the deal but due to the secrecy with which it was done.
Nary a report from reputable sources or outlets surfaced before the deal was announced Thursday. Although it was later reported that Cubs boss Theo Epstein and White Sox general manager Rick Hahn held discussions backstage at All-Star FanFest a few days back.
In any event, evidence has surfaced that two Redditors with very unique and comical screen names may have broken the news about the Quintana trade. Their names? KatyPerrysBootyHole and wetbutt23.
KatyPerrysBootyHole’s first mentioned the trade on Reddit’s r/whitesox board Wednesday night.
Hey guys, take this with a grain of salt, but I heard from a friend who’s brothers friend works for the cubs (sounds like bulls**t I know), that Q is going to the cubs in exchange for 4 players. Has anyone heard anything similar?
wetbutt23 later added more details which proved to be accurate after it was acknowledged he was KatyPerrysBootyHole’s source.
As noted by Deadspin’s Barry Petchesky, CSN Chicago actually issued a correction to a report acknowledging wetbutt23’s role in the story.
Correction: While no national media had this story, a Reddit user named “wetbutt23” had it last night. CSNChicago.com apologizes to wetbutt23 for the error.
And a tweet from CSN Chicago’s Paul Roumeliotis.
