Bryce Harper poses for pic with pal Kris Bryant, trolls everyone
Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant are longtime pals going back to their days growing up in Las Vegas. So it stands to reason with the Chicago Cubs in D.C. for a four-game series with the Washington Nationals that the two would meet up.
And in this day and age, it’s not surprising for photographic evidence of the visit to end up on social media. But it’s how Harper tagged said photo that makes it clear he’s executing a near-perfect social media troll-job.
Here’s the Instagram post from Harper showing him posing alongside his fellow MLB superstar.
Make sure to note the hashtag, #Back2BackOneDay, which seemingly implies Harper expects his name to be right next to Bryant’s on a lineup card at some point in the future.
Speculation not surprisingly abounds about Harper’s long-term MLB future. An impending free agent come 2018, the Nationals superstar surely will command a historic deal, with some suggesting it could near $400 million. Only a handful of teams can afford such a salary — ahem — and even if the Cubs could, it’s unlikely given the team will need to sign Bryant to a very lucrative extension as well.
But the Cubs nevertheless have been mentioned as a possible destination for Harper, despite the evident obstacles. Harper doesn’t understand where such rumors come from, adding such talk and speculation is best saved until 2018.
“I think a lot of people here say ‘I hear that, I hear this,'” Harper said, via the Chicago Tribune. “But I’m a Washington National right now and I enjoy playing here in D.C. and everybody knows that.
“We’ve got a great team and a great organization and it’s a lot of fun to be part of this process of trying to get better every year and try to be a great team.”
That may be true, but that didn’t stop Harper from adding fuel to the fire with what appears to be a brilliant troll-job.
