Free agent DeAngelo Williams to take part in pro wrestling event
DeAngelo Williams’ NFL career currently is on hold after the Pittsburgh Steelers opted to allow him to enter free agency. Finding no takers thus far this offseason on the football front, it looks like the 34-year-old running back is making a foray into the world of professional wrestling.
A video posted by Impact Wrestling, formerly known as TNA, shows Williams spending time at the organization’s Nashville offices.

As it stands, Williams’ story line involves a tag-team match-up alongside Moose, perhaps better known as former NFL offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka against Chris Adonis and Eli Drake. The bout in the squared circle is scheduled for July 2 at Impact’s Slammiversary XV pay-per-view event in Orlando, Fla.
Williams and Moose have crossed paths before, as the free agent running back — along with fellow NFL free agent Gary Barnidge — came to the latter’s aid during an attack by wrestler Davey Richards. So there’s that.
Williams’ entry into the world of pro wrestling appears to lack the hype of generated when Rob Gronkowski took the WWE by storm at Wrestlemania 33 earlier this year. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be interesting to see, although one has to wonder if Williams’ appearance would end up in jeopardy should he sign with an NFL team.
