D-backs react to John McCain blaming team for confusing questions

The Arizona Diamondbacks somehow became tangentially thrust into the biggest story in U.S. politics this week thanks to home-state senator John McCain. And the team’s official Twitter account decided to have some fun with it.

McCain on Thursday was roundly criticized for what some pundits deemed “bizarre and incoherent” line of questioning (see footage here) during the former FBI director James Comey’s highly anticipated appearance Thursday in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Arizona senator later issued a statement citing how his strange conduct could be in part blamed on his love of Diamondbacks baseball.

“I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people’s heads,” the statement read. “Maybe going forward I shouldn’t stay up late watching the Diamondbacks night games.”

The Diamondbacks shortly thereafter issued a humorous response to McCain’s comments, posting a “shrug” in a tweet that had the senator’s statement attached.

But the Diamondbacks weren’t done with McCain just yet. After the squad went out throttled the San Diego Padres by a score of 15-3 to complete a series sweep, the team was back at it on Twitter, posting footage of McCain celebrating at a game.

No word on if the esteemed senator watched the game, or some of it, or not. Given it was an afternoon game, at least McCain wouldn’t have had to stay up late to watch it.
