John McCain blames D-backs for line of questioning to James Comey
Senator John McCain has suggested staying up late Wednesday night to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks game may have negatively impacted his “line of questioning” Thursday to former FBI director James Comey.
McCain, shortly after Comey’s highly anticipated appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a statement in which he mentions taking in the Diamondbacks’ 7-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

“I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people’s heads,” the statement read. “Maybe going forward I shouldn’t stay up late watching the Diamondbacks night games.”
Much is being made of McCain’s performance during the hearing with some calling it “bizarre and incoherent.”

For what it’s worth, the game was a long and didn’t end until approximately 1:30 a.m. in D.C., meaning McCain was up quite late. Perhaps the senator from Arizona would have been better served firing up the DVR and catching the end of the game while eating breakfast.
