‘Fat old dude’ Charles Barkley slams Tristan Thompson’s poor play (vid)
Charles Barkley, as he is wont to do, pulled no punches when providing a player critique, saying this time that a “fat old dude” like him could play better than Tristan Thompson did in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Thompson was held scoreless on only one shot attempt and pulled down a measly three rebounds in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ crushing 118-113 loss to the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night.
To put that in perspective, Stephen Curry, all 6-foot-3 of him, had 13 rebounds in Golden State’s win. In fact, Curry’s 13 boards Wednesday night exceeds the 11 total rebounds the 6-foot-9 Thompson has in the entire series.
Barkley, known for his rebounding prowess in his NBA career, not due to size but tenacity, brutally called Thompson out after Game 3 for the thoroughly awful performance.

“[Thompson] scored the same amount of points as me and Shaq. And had three whole rebounds,” Barkley said. “Let me tell you something, I’m a fat old dude. If they put me in a NBA game right now for 20 minutes, I could get three rebounds.”
In other words, Sir Charles feels Thompson’s play as been “turrible.”
Whether or not Barkley could actually notch a three-rebound performance in 20 minutes of NBA action is immaterial — although there’s a good chance he probably could — Thompson’s woeful play throughout the NBA Finals is a big reason the Cavaliers find themselves in a 0-3 hole from which it will be practically impossible to dig out.
