Topps issues card celebrating Cubs’ ‘Anchorman’-themed road trip (pic)

It goes without saying that the Chicago Cubs donning “Anchorman”-inspired outfits before embarking on a West Coast road trip this week was kind of a big deal.

So much so, in fact, that Topps has announced a limited run of a one-card series celebrating Joe Maddon’s latest wacky bit dressed up as a team-building exercise.

The card features Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber outfitted in 1970s-era attire … and looking pretty snazzy while doing so.

The back of the limited-edition card reads: “After defeating the San Francisco Giants by a score of 5-1 at home, the Cubs left Wrigley Field in style. The team kept it classy with their road trip attire as they set out on a west coast trip, beginning with a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.”

While the description is accurate enough, it’s arguably dumbfounding that Topps didn’t think to sneak in a few more “Anchorman” references outside of “classy.” Wouldn’t “Don’t act like you’re not impressed” work perfectly here?

Anyway, as noted, the card is about as limited edition as it gets, as it will only be sold for a 24-hour period on Topps’ official website. Sale of the card will end Saturday and it retails for $9.99, although the price-per-card drops depending on quantity ordered.
