‘Inside the NBA’ Gone Fishin’ segment humorously gets political (vid)
The “Gone Fishin'” bit has long been a celebrated part of the NBA on TNT’s postseason coverage. And the wisenheimers behind the classic “Inside the NBA” segment managed to sneak in some pretty wry political references into Monday night’s edition.
With the Washington Wizards being the most recent team to be eliminated from the NBA postseason courtesy of Monday’s Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics, the “Gone Fishin'” piece not surprisingly featured some D.C.-inspired skullduggery.
The segment also made note of the Houston Rockets’ recent elimination at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs with a funny photo featuring members of the Rockets organization, not to mention … Beyonce?
Naming the boat “We Owe Chuck $3M” was a nice touch.
But the segment’s crowning achievement had to be the image used to highlight the Wizards’ elimination, as numerous political references were inserted into the scene.
Brilliant. There’s a lot to absorb in the above image. First of all, the presence of George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush,, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter — all five currently living former presidents — not to mention Hillary Clinton, riding on an airboat named “‘Merica” is solid stuff.
And then there’s Donald Trump taking a ride on a jet ski piloted by Vladimir Putin with former FBI director James Comey falling into the water in their wake. Wow.
And don’t neglect to notice White House press secretary Sean Spicer peering out from behind the reeds. Well executed, indeed.
Here’s the entire segment. Enjoy.

As noted on countless occasions, “Inside the NBA” is head and shoulders above all other professional sports studio shows. The kind of irreverence displayed in the above segment is all the evidence needed.
