Yasiel Puig tries and fails to break bat over knee (vid)
Yasiel Puig attempted to do his best Bo Jackson impression by breaking a bat over his knee during Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger, it did not end with a shattered shard of lumber in each his hands.
With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Puig came up empty in his at-bat, striking out on a 1-2 offering from Daniel Hudson. This prompted a frustrated Puig to try to break his bat as he stormed back to the dugout.
In the end, despite Puig’s best efforts — although it does appear he may have slowed up a bit right before impact — the bat won.
In the end, it was all for naught, as Austin Barnes hit a walk-off, RBI double in the Dodgers’ next at-bat to secure the 4-3 victory.
No word, though, on the ultimate status of Puig’s bat. It’s entirely possible Puig may have at least cracked it a little bit. Either way, odds are it’s going to be out of Puig’s bat rotation going forward either way.
