Fired ESPN talent gets ‘brutally honest’ note from daughter
Danny Kanell was among those fired by ESPN amid the massive layoffs last month after an eight-year run. And his 8-year-old daughter Dylan recently wrote a “brutally honest” note to her dad about his uncertain career future.
Dylan wrote the concerned-but-optimistic missive in a journal she and her father share. Kannel posted evidence of the journal entry Thursday morning.
My daughter’s and I keep a notebook where we write back and forth. This is my 8 yr old’s latest letter. Brutally honest…yet optimistic!! pic.twitter.com/C82eEmy4F5

Hi dad, well now that you got fired what are we going to do? Are we going to move? I do not want to move but as long as it is FL,” Dylan wrote, “And what if we get a bigger house!! That woud [sic] be so exsiding [sic]. Hopefully we move to a bigger house. Well see you tomorrow.”
Kanell also took to Instagram to discuss his uncertain future along with photos of him and Dylan at her swim meet over the weekend.
“The last thing I said was ‘Trust me. Everything will be fine and you’ll do great.’ I’m sure that moment when I walked away was really hard and scary for her,” Kannel wrote in part in the post.
“Well, I’m kind of in a place like Dylan right now. It’s scary. I don’t know where I’ll work, where we will live, if we will move, etc. But just like my advice for her I need to follow God’s advice for me. I need to keep looking for him and following Him. I can hear His voice saying ‘Trust me. Everything will be fine and you’ll do great.'”
Kanell, a former NFL quarterback, saw his role at ESPN expand over the years but he was nevertheless among the numerous on-air and off-air talent who were laid off.
