Marcus Smart fires back at Jimmy Butler over ‘not about that life’ talk

Jimmy Butler had some post-game trash talk for Marcus Smart after the two tangled during Sunday’s Game 4 of the Chicago Bulls-Boston Celtics playoff series. And now Smart is firing back over Butler’s “not about that life” talk.

Butler and Smart mixed it up on the backcourt baseline and had to be separated, prompting the Bulls guard to call out the Celtics guard after the game.

Butler’s postgame comments after the Bulls’ 104-95 loss (via Pro Basketball Talk):

“As far as the Marcus Smart situation goes, he’s a great actor,” Butler said. “Acting tough, that’s what he does. But I don’t think he’s about that, and I’m the wrong guy to get in my face. So, he needs to take it somewhere else because I’m not the one for that.

“… We’re not going to sit here and get in each other’s faces like that. Like I said, he’s not about that life. So, he’s calming down.”

Smart has since been asked about Butler’s trash talk, and it’s clear he wasn’t impressed.

“Laugh at that. This about the Celtics versus Chicago Bulls, not Marcus Smart versus Jimmy,” Smart said, as transcribed by Pro Basketball Talk. “I ain’t got to sit here and say this and that. I’m this. I’m that. I ain’t that type of guy. My actions speak louder than words. It ain’t hard to find me. But, right now, I’m focused on my teammates and this series.

“… Like I said before, I ain’t got to talk about what I am about. I just show you. I can show you, but I’m not going to tell you. Like I said, it ain’t hard to find me. You heard him. He said, “I don’t think Marcus Smart is about that life.” Last time I checked, if you’re going to say somebody ain’t about that life, you should know, right? But like I said, we’re going to keep this Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics, not Marcus vs. Jimmy.”

The Bulls have dropped consecutive home games after staking a 2-0 series lead with surprising road victories. Game 5 will tip-off Wednesday night at TD Garden.
