Report: Colin Kaepernick’s vegan diet scaring away NFL teams
The fact Colin Kaepernick remains without an NFL team this far along in free agency is nothing short of surprising.
Several theories, of the conspiratorial variety and otherwise, have been forwarded as to why the former superstar quarterback is unemployed have been floated. But the most recent reason teams reportedly are shying away from Kaepernick has nothing to do with the controversy over his anthem protests or even Donald Trump, nor what some suggest as his diminishing skill set.
Instead, a report suggests Kaepernick is evidently untouchable stems from arguably spurious source:
His strict adherence to veganism, per a tweet from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
“At season’s end, Colin Kaepernick stated he was fully committed to football,” Maiocco wrote on Twitter Friday. “But some teams are unconvinced and wonder about his vegan diet.”
While it may seem suspect on the surface, the fact remains Kaepernick admitted to struggles maintaining weight heading into last season while coming off multiple offseason surgeries.
But let’s be honest, when the best quarterback in the NFL is celebrated for his infamously unorthodox, vegan-based diet, there’s cause for alarm here.
Despite all the controversy surrounding Kaepernick, it is arguably surprising he hasn’t been able to find a team. While it’s indisputable that Kaepernick brings some semblance of baggage, he remains a quarterback of some talent. This is especially true when comparing him to other underwhelming free agent signal-callers who have found jobs this offseason.
That said, Kaepernick’s veganism stinks of a red herring more than a legitimate, valid excuse.
