Rockies hold ping-pong tourney in front of packed clubhouse (vids)

Spring training undoubtedly serves its purpose with its myriad benefits and routines. It helps players, management, coaching staff, trainers and the like prepare themselves, both mentally and physically, for the impending slog through the marathon-like regular season.

But even spring training can get a bit long, tenuous and repetitive. So many teams try to figure out ways to break up the monotony a bit. Just take the Colorado Rockies.

On Wednesday, the Rockies engaged in an epic ping-pong tournament that involved management personnel and was played out in front of a captivated audience inside a packed clubhouse.

The Rockies official Twitter account chronicled some of the table tennis action. When the tournament was all about said and done, a final match between special Assistant to the General Manager Vinny Castilla and Director of Player Development Zach Wilson was in the offing.

But before the match, how about some music from a Mariachi band that just so happened to be in the clubhouse?

Let’s just say Rockies players were enjoying the show.

And then, the final points.

It truly is a shame that someone had to lose. But it was the Rockies players and staff that came out as true winners.
