LeBron James makes bold statement about Cavs overcoming Kevin Love injury

LeBron James on Tuesday addressed the news that Kevin Love will be out an estimated six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday morning. The superstar’s bold comments make it clear he believes his presence alone ensures the Cleveland Cavaliers will overcome the setback.

“As long as I’m in the lineup, we’ve got a chance,” James said Tuesday morning, via Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor. “We good. Kev is out for an extended period of time. J.R. (Smith) has been out, but I’m in the lineup. I’ll be suiting up. We’ve got a chance against anybody. I ain’t worried.”

James didn’t have a chance to talk to Love before the procedure as things were set in motion so quickly. But James made it clear he felt for Love, not to mention the Cavaliers.

“Sucks,” James said. “It’s just our road every season. One of our key guys get hurt and this year has probably been the worst out of all years — having our starting 2-guard out for so long and now having our All-Star power forward out for an extended period of time. It’s just next man up and we just hope for a healthy and speedy recovery for our All-Star.”

After stumbling a bit a few weeks ago — which prompted James’ criticism of the Cavs front office and spawned a feud with Charles Barkley — the Cavaliers have righted the ship, winning seven of ten games. At 37-16, the Cavaliers hold a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference over the Boston Celtics.

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue recently suggested James was “being bull-headed” in his refusal to back down from playing heavy minutes. With Love being out for the foreseeable future, the Cavs will need to rely upon James even more. James was asked about the need for him to step up.

“I’ve never stepped down,” he said. “Why does it change now? Ain’t nothing changed. I have my guys ready to play every single night.”

Some may argue James is exhibiting too much overconfidence with his bold statements. But when it comes right down to it, he’s right.
