Cam Newton became the latest sports personality to pay tribute to the late Craig Sager by celebrating the longtime sports media icon’s quirky sense of style.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback stepped onto the nationally televised stage of “Monday Night Football” before a game against the Washington Redskins rocking a suit/hat combo that the beloved NBA reporter — famously known for his original and outrageous sideline attire —  would have appreciated.

CSN Redskins issued a tweet before the game to note Newton’s pregame fashion game was strong.

But only after the game did the world get to witness the Sager-like majesty of Newton’s suit and complimentary accessories.

Newton revealed during his postgame comments following Carolina’s 26-15 victory that he chose his attire to pay tribute to Sager, who died last week at the age of 65 after a courageous, years-long battle with leukemia.

“I wore this type of outfit because of Craig Sager,” Newton said of Sager, via ESPN. “I didn’t know him personally. I just admired him from afar. My heart goes out to him and his family for just a person that went against the grain.”

Sager’s unique sense of style, something obviously shared by Newton, was seen as the Panthers QB as an inspiration.

“I respect that, being a person that looks at fashion to represent yourself or be able to explain or have some type of expression without even opening your mouth,” Newton said.

“Craig Sager was a person who was the ultimate professional and he lit up the TV screen when he came on the TV. Like I said, from a person who never met him, I admire him from afar.”

Countless others who knew the longtime NBA reporter personally or like Newton were simply admirers share the exact same sentiments about the one-of-a-kind Craig Sager.
