Stephen Curry to auction shoes honoring Oakland warehouse fire victims (pic)
Stephen Curry on Thursday night wore two special pairs of sneakers in memory of the 36 people who died in an Oakland warehouse fire earlier this month. The Golden State Warriors superstar also announced plans to auction off the two pairs of shoes to raise funds for the victims’ families.
Before Thursday’s 103-90 victory over the New York Knicks at Oracle Arena, Curry showcased on Twitter the low-cut version of the sneaker he would wear during warmups. The shoes were emblazoned with “GHOST SHIP,” the name of the warehouse, and also featured the initials of all the victims.

Curry on Instagram also shared a photo of the shoes, which featured the words “Ghost Ship” and “Oakland Always Remember Strong.”
“Tonight, I am honoring those who were affected by the tragedy at #GhostShip and wearing these shoes in support,” Curry wrote in the post. “After auctioning these shoes off, the proceeds will be combined with our team’s donation to benefit the Oakland Fire Relief fund as we remember the victims and support their families. Please consider joining us. Together, we’re #OaklandStrong”
Curry mentions in the post that the proceeds will be added to the Warriors’ previous donation of $75,000 to assist in relief efforts. A message from members of the team previously was posted on Twitter by Curry.
We Support Oakland as much as Oakland has supported us. We all can help in some way. #OaklandFire #GhostShip https://t.co/HBxvDtpVzv pic.twitter.com/MwWzTHftnw
