Bartolo Colon dominates in fantastic footage of him working out (vid)

A terrific video hit the Internet Thursday showcasing Bartolo Colon putting in an impressive workout in his native Dominican Republic. While never being known as a devout workout warrior, nor much interested in physical fitness by any stretch, the video clearly demonstrates that Colon is willing to put in the offseason work.

The video, posted by MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez, is everything one would expect out of a Colon workout, which of course means it’s awesome.

Impressive, indeed. Although the video would have been so much better had Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” beenĀ  playing in the background. Perhaps the best part of it all, though? Colon is rocking a shirt that celebrates his memorable home run last season that touts himself as “Bartbino.”

And if you think Colon’s dedication to offseason workouts is a new thing, think again. Here’s a video of Colon, courtesy of MLB.com, pushing the limits last offeason.

Colon, 43, is about to enter his 20th MLB season after signing with the Atlanta Braves. And even though his portly frame has been the source of comedic fodder for many years — much like his unique approach in the batter’s box — Colon deserves credit for getting it done this offseason.

And all kidding aside, kudos to Colon for his dedication. Let’s hope he can notch the 11 wins necessary next season to replace Juan Marichal, who had 243 wins in his career, as the all-time winningest Dominican pitcher.
