Roy Williams sends letter to family grieving over death of dog named after him
North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball coach Roy Williams went above and beyond to console a family grieving over the death of their dog, one that just so happened to be named after him.
Whitney Shankland, a huge Tar Heels fan, took to Twitter recently to post photographic evidence of Williams’ thoughtful correspondence, which in part read, “I am honored Roy was named after me and he certainly was a true Tar Heel thanks to you.”
Roy Williams models the #carolinaway. I can't imagine naming my dog after a more perfect man. #goheelsgoamerica #gdtbath #tarheelfamily pic.twitter.com/fkUVlI6JS5

It’s unclear how Williams found about Roy’s death, but the fact that time was taken after the fact to reach out to the Shankland family as they mourned the death of their beloved dog certainly was a thoughtful gesture.
