Broncos’ Brandon Marshall receives despicable, threatening racist letter
Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall posted to his Instagram account a threatening racist letter he received that is as despicable as it is frightening.
The “N-word” is frequently used, among other disgusting references, as is a threat of “your time is coming.”
The letter closes with, “Watch out, (N-word), it’s a comin’,” a reference to how whoever wrote the letter previously wrote they’re “‘channeling’ a devastating hard hit for you!! Something to make you an invalid in a wheelchair.”
It’s absolutely chilling, shocking, nauseating and profoundly troubling.
Marshall posted the two-page letter Friday morning, writing, “The hatred by some against people of color is one of the reasons we are where we’re at in the world today, and they wonder why we feel the way we do and take the stances that we take. I received this letter at work.”
NOTE: After initially posting images of the letter, the decision has been made to remove it from this post given the alarming and explicit nature of its content. Those who wish to see it can see it on Marshall’s Instagram page here.
It’s difficult to put into words the visceral response this letter evokes. Marshall of course was among those who took part in Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest earlier this season before reconsidering and deciding not to do it after meeting with Denver police. He later announced he would instead donate $300 for every tackle to Denver charities.
However one views Marshall’s previous protests and political beliefs, let’s hope we can all agree this kind of hateful, dangerous and disgusting rhetoric has no place in our society.
