Cam Newton takes to Instagram to post motivational message (pic)

Cam Newton is in the midst of another self-inflicted controversy after putting on  a repeat performance of his infamous post-Super Bowl presser following Sunday’s disastrous loss to the New Orleans Saints. But that apparently doesn’t mean the Carolina Panthers quarterback isn’t willing to discuss the struggles his team is facing. He apparently just wants to do it on his terms.

Newton took to Instagram Monday evening to post an inspirational message in which he suggests setbacks and the like only make ultimate success that much sweeter and that he’s ready to work for it.

“A wise man once said, ‘It won’t be easy … BUT IT WILL DAMN SURE BE WORTH IT,'” Newton wrote in the post. He also added the hashtags #iWmW-1OVE, #imUPforTHEchallenge and #keepPOUND1NG.

It merits noting the photograph Newton chose for the post interestingly is of him from about the time of Sunday’s much-discussed presser. This would suggest Newton is at least aware of how his antics are generally being perceived without actually acknowledging it.

As noted, Newton has once again come under fire for his surly demeanor during a press conference following a tough loss. Newton’s performance during Sunday’s presser featured him blowing off inquiries by uttering “Next question” a few times before walking off the podium after a mere 90 seconds.

As was the case following the Super Bowl press conference, Newton’s leadership and maturity are again being called into question. Newton of course isn’t the only player who has had to face the media coming off a disappointing, even heartbreaking, loss. The fact that other players handle the situation far differently makes the case that there’s no reason why Newton shouldn’t do so as well.

As it stands, the Panthers are reeling with a surprising 1-5 record. The team has its bye this week, meaning the Panthers have an opportunity to figure out a way to turn things around, if it’s not too late already.
