Russell Westbrook gets into skirmish with Marc Gasol (vid)
Russell Westbrook appears to be in midseason form when it comes to his no-holds-barred, hyper-competitive on-court demeanor. One needn’t look any further than how the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar mixed it up with Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol during Thursday’s exhibition tilt.
The two appeared to run into each other while making their way back down the court, with Westbrook giving Gasol a shove. After jawing at one another, Westbrook manages to sneak in another push before the two were separated.

Both Westbrook and Gasol were assessed technical fouls, according to a pair of tweets from ESPN’s Royce Young, with Westbrook also picking up a personal foul.
Westbrook addressed the skirmish after the game. Not surprisingly, he wasn’t about to back down even after the fact.
“Yeah, he hit me and I hit him back,” Westbrook said, via a tweet the Norman Transcript’s Fred Katz. “I don’t play like that. If I get hit, I hit back. That is how I was brought up. That is how I was taught.”
It merits noting that this isn’t the first time Westbrook and Gasol have been in an on-court altercation, either.
It’s been an eventful week for Westbrook. First he threw shade at the state of NBA offenses when compared to their Euro-style counterparts. Next came his bemused and sarcastic reaction to Kevin Durant’s “selfless” talk about the Warriors that seemingly called out the Thunder. And now his scuffle with Gasol … during a preseason game.
Suffice to say, it’s going to be an interesting season when it comes to Westbrook. Win or lose and everything in between, it seems the fiery superstar, sans his on-court partner Durant for the first time, is on a mission to move on and prove doubters wrong.
What the ultimate result of said mission will be at season’s end, however, remains to be seen.
