Yasiel Puig tries to toss ball to fan, knocks out girl’s tooth (pic)

Yasiel Puig was doing something he has done hundreds of times before at the ballpark when an unfortunate sequence of events left a Los Angeles Dodgers fan missing a tooth.

Puig was innocently attempting to toss a souvenir baseball to a pack of Dodgers fans after catching the final out of Monday’s 9-2 road victory over the New York Yankees when an inadvertent accident occurred…

… resulting in dedicated Dodgers backer Alyssa Gerharter looking like this:

“I saw it coming at me and I remember thinking, ‘I don’t have a glove to catch this ball,'” Gerharter, a California native-turned-Manhattan transplant told the New York Daily News. “And I think I put my hands up in front of my face. I saw it was coming at me and registered that it was coming at me, and I felt it hit me. It wasn’t so much painful as it was shock. So I felt it hit me and I could feel immediately with my tongue there’s a hole. And I looked down at my hand and saw there’s a tooth in my hand.”

Yankee Stadium ushers first took her to the ballpark’s first aid room but it was later determined a hospital visit was in order.

Gerharter indicated “everything happened so fast” she’s unsure Puig even was aware of what occurred in the wake of his thoughtful-turned-painful gesture. She said she has tickets to Wendesday’s series finale but is unsure if she’ll go.

Call it a case of being worried about lightning striking twice … or more fittingly concern over a baseball somehow drilling her in the face in consecutive visits to watch her Dodgers.
