Karl-Anthony Towns recreates classic Kevin Garnett SLAM mag cover (pic)

Given Karl-Anthony Towns without question is the heir apparent to the legacy “The Big Ticket” blazed during his first stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves, it makes sense that SLAM magazine recreated an iconic cover featuring Kevin Garnett using the second-year budding superstar.

The Timberwolves took to Twitter to note the striking similarities between the classic cover featuring KG — who currently remains on Minnesota’s roster heading into the 2016-17 NBA season — and the new cover featuring KAT.

The Timberwolves of course are being heralded as a team on the rise, and Towns is unquestionably one of the centerpieces of the assumed ascension. Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Ricky Rubio — along with a capable supporting cast including incoming rookie point guard Kris Dunn — round out a young, talented and hungry Timberwolves roster.

And with Tom Thibodeau running the show on the court and in the front office, the sky is arguably the limit for this squad.

And who knows? Perhaps SLAM is on to something with the above blast-from-the-past cover tribute. Given how much positive press the T’Wolves are receiving — which is a vast improvement on the press the team received over the past decade, which was rarely nothing, or outright mockery — perhaps KAT very well could be the next KG.
