Mike Zimmer won’t announce Vikings starting QB until Sunday

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer played his own version of the Name Game when telling reporters he doesn’t intend to announce whether Shaun Hill or Sam Bradford will get the nod in Sunday’s season-opening game against the Tennessee Titans.

While keeping the identity of his starting quarterback close to the vest, Zimmer also joked that he plans on running the single wing offense on Sunday.

Zimmer added that the benefit of having extra practices on Sunday and Monday has helped Bradford along in learning offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s system.

“We had a little extra time this week,” he said.

Titans head coach Mike Malarkey, meanwhile, indicated he’s not overly concerned if it’s Hill or Bradford under center come Sunday.

Hill currently is listed as the No. 1 quarterback on the Vikings depth chart, but that can change in an instant. Bradford expressed confidence that he’s absorbing the new offense quickly enough and added he’s never been in this kind of situation before.

Ahead of Teddy Bridgewater’s horrible injury just last week, the case can be made neither have the Vikings.
