OKC building lit up to read ‘THANK YOU RUSS’ in tribute to Russell Westbrook (pic)
Russell Westbrook just might be the most revered person in the entire State of Oklahoma after he spurned the chance at free agency after next season by staying put with the local NBA team after signing a reported three-year, $85.7 contract extension.
The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar said all the right things about loyalty and the like during Thursday’s press conference. And the local community paid tribute to him by lighting up the Devon Tower to read “THANK YOU RUSS.”
KFOR’s Dylan Buckingham took to Twitter to highlight the stories-tall gesture.

“There’s nowhere else I would rather be than Oklahoma City,” Westbrook said Thursday, via ESPN. “You guys have basically raised me. I’ve been here since I was 18, 19 years old. You guys did nothing but great things for me. Through the good and the bad, you guys supported me through it all, and I appreciate it. Definitely when I had the opportunity to be able to be loyal to you guys, that’s the No. 1 option. Loyalty is something that I stand by.”
And now, the city of Oklahoma City is standing by Westbrook.
