Robert Griffin III rolled into Browns training camp in old Passat (pic)
Robert Griffin III has made millions of dollars during his NFL career, but that doesn’t mean he has a need to be frivolous in his spending, that much is clear.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback took to Twitter to proudly showcase his sweet new ride: A Volkswagen Passat VR6 that appears to be from a model year between 1992 and 1994.

The phrase “new whip” may be a bit of a misnomer. It’s nevertheless a pretty nice-looking vehicle, despite its vintage nature.
Griffin signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Browns this past offseason, a deal that includes $6.75 million in guaranteed money. And it appears the starting quarterback position is his job to lose, meaning he’ll likely make a good portion of that cash, at least on the front end.
Suffice to say, he could have easily afforded a nicer car while remaining something of a spendthrift. And that doesn’t even take into account all the money he pocketed as a member of the Washington Redskins, even while riding the pine and holding a clipboard in his final season with the team.
All that aside, Griffin’s Passat certainly lacks the ostentatious qualities of New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes’ preseason rides, that’s for sure. And let’s be honest, RG3’s old-school Volkswagen arguably is a far superior vehicle than Dallas Cowboys running back Alred Morris’ Mazda, which he still drives.
But more than anything, at least Griffin actually rolled into training camp in a vehicle, unlike one pedestian-inclined Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver.
