DeMarcus Cousins addresses recent remarks about Kings’ draft
DeMarcus Cousins once again is trying to clarify seemingly critical remarks concerning the offseason strategy of the Sacramento Kings.
In essence, Cousins insists that his comments have been misinterpreted.
The latest controversy stems from how Cousins had the following to say about how the Kings have approached the offseason with moves that included selecting center Georgios Papagiannis in the first round of the draft, among other acquisitions that included Arron Afflalo, Matt Barnes, Garrett Temple and Anthony Tolliver.
“I don’t really understand what’s going on,” he said. “I just control what I can control; I let them do their jobs.”
Cousins has since attempted to clear the air by speaking with The Vertical. According to a Yahoo! Sports report, Cousins praised the selection of Papagiannis as well as the three other major acquisitions. Specifically speaking to his not understanding “what’s going on” comment, Cousins claims it’s all a misunderstanding.
“I’m trying to figure out what I said wrong. Of course, they’ve twisted it into something negative, in some type of way,” Cousins told The Vertical, via Pro Basketball Talk. “I’m clueless. It’s to the point now, where I don’t want to say anything about any situation. Then I’ll be the bad guy about that as well. Anything I do. Anything I do, it’s … it’s whatever, man.”
Cousins’ latest comments come on the heels of a tweet he posted after the Kings took Papagiannis.

Cousins said the controversy was the result of “bad timing” as he was actually referring to his participation in a hot sculpting yoga class.
All that aside, Cousins’ time in Sacramento has been controversial — to say the least — and much of it has to do with him providing often controversial and unfiltered takes on the state of the team and his role in the organization.
Because of his past comments, an environment has been fostered between the Kings and Cousins that causes any comment he makes to be parsed, analyzed and picked apart. Whether that’s fair or not is worthy of debate, but Cousins’ integral role in how things are playing out now cannot be understated.
