Vince Wilfork lands on cover of ‘Body Issue’ (pic/vids)

Vince Wilfork arguably is one of the most compelling athletes appearing in this year’s edition of the annual ESPN The Magazine Body Issue. Not only that, the 325-plus-pound Houston Texans nose tackle has landed on one of the issue’s covers.

Wilfork previously discussed his appearance in the issue, saying he hopes it serves as inspiration to others who have less traditional body types. He also called out Tom Brady in a humorous video, suggesting that wife Gisele Bundchen should line him up with some modeling gigs.

In a profile in the Body Issue, Wilfork continues to explain why he decided to strip down for the shoot.

“I just think it’s a good idea for people that are bigger-boned,” Wilfork said. “If people can look at me, a guy that’s 325-plus, doing an issue like this, I’m pretty sure that they might have a little confidence. There will be critics, just like with everything else. I think a lot of people will get a laugh out of it, I’ll tell you that. I’m looking forward to what the locker room’s going to say. But at the end of the day, I’m perfectly fine with who I am as a person and what I have accomplished. It shows a lot of my personality.”

Wilfork admits that many people consider him to be “obese” and “fat and sloppy.” He adds that his big stomach overshadows other aspects of his body.

“What people go to the gym and work for, I have,” he said. “The only thing I don’t have that they got is six-packs. But I really don’t care about six-packs.”

But to land on the cover? Even Wilfork was surprised by that development, as evidenced by a video posted on Twitter by the Texans.

A video was also shared that showcases footage from Wilfork’s shoot, including him doing drills in the buff.

Good stuff. And good for Wilfork.
